Christopher Paolini started to write Eragon when he was fourteen.  Self-published, at first, he and his family traveled from city to city, advertising the book.  One day, author Carl Hassen's (apologies for misspelling) son picked it up.  The rest is history.

Eragon

One night, while a fifteen year old farm boy, Eragon, is hunting in the mountains, he comes upon a round, polished blue and white stone.  He just believes he's lucky to have found something to trade for food for the upcoming winter.  He discovers, to his dismay and surprise, that it was an egg, within the egg a dragon.  Eragon, unknowingly, had uncovered the only hope to save Alagaeisa from the Empire, ruled by King Galbatorix and his dragon, Shuikan.  He flees his hometown, guided by the old storyteller, Brom, all the while being pursued by the Empire.  Will Eragon join King Galbatorix and the Empire?  Or will he run to the rebel group known as the Varden and fight against the king?

Please do not read this if you have not read Eragon; it will spoil important events from the first book.

Eragon and Saphira, Rider and dragon, have just helped save the Varden from certain destruction.  Now, they are off to Ellesmera, to further their training as dragon and Rider.  Amid the wondrous halls of trees and pleasant faces, chaos and betrayal seeps into everything.  Now, they cannot know whom to trust.

Meanwhile, Eragon's cousin, Roran, is facing his own dilemma.  Their childhood home, Carvahall, is being sieged by the Empire's servants, the Ra'zac.  When Roran's fiancée, Katrina, is captured and over a dozen villagers are dead, he must decide whether to flee with the rest of Carvahall or to avenge his father's death and rescue Katrina.
